Double Buchi is a very hot band. They've been around a while, with several personnel changes. This is the best combinmation of players they've ever had. Lead guitarist Chris Case would be a standout in any band. He does some cute 'behind his head ' playing tricks, but believe me, he doesn't need them. You'd pay close attention if he were playing with his back turned. He also sings lead, as does bassist Tom Pilsey. If two exc llent vocalists aren't enough for you, keyboard player Pete Peterson makes it three. Drummer "G Man" puts down a beat that is irresistable.
They took their name from that Cuban coffee that could fuel rockets, and their music can also do the job. Muddy Waters' "Hoochie Coochie Man" more than proves it. Tom sings in a lower register with all the blues chops he needs either vocally or instrumentally. Pete smokes a lead break, then Chris takes it on into the stratosphere. But is Double Buchi just another blues band? Ask them for some Santana and see for yourself. The foursome rocks hard.
Pete sings an oldie, "Unchain My Heart". Chris takes his lead up the neck as far as it can go.Then we get into Southern rock with some mind blowing Allman Brothers' tunes "One Way Out" takes us straight to Macon. A neat segue leads into a heavy metal sound for "Sometimes I Feel Like I'm Dying". Enough? Oh, no! After a slow ending Double Buchi gives us real Southern cooking with my favorite, "Jessica". They could have stopped right there and left me satisfied, but upward and onward they went into some Cajun flavored soul with Pete calling on his New Orleans background. Tom's bass kicks major backside, and Mr. Case's fat tone is fabulous.
When Chris sings "Wake up mama, hang your head down low", we're talking some extremely low down and dirty blues straight from the Delta. You have to fight off the alligators on this one, cause it leaves you in the swamp. Tom gets down with some killer slap bass to put us into a state of funk. "Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself" has fine three part harmony. Next it's Sly and the Family Stone's wonderful one chord classic "Got My Mojo Working". Chris and Pete do echoing vocals and the "G Man" kills with his drums. Your mojo will definitely be working. There may be a hotter, more versatile band somewhere, but heaven knows where you could find it. After Double Buchi, you won't even bother to look! Stay cool.
