Impressionist masters William Welch and Paul Arsenault are returning again from their artistic sojourns to show at the Gallery on Greene. Their new show opens with a reception this Sunday, March 26, 4-7 p.m., enhanced by a cocktail bar and David George's "Table de Provence" edibles.
This is Welch's fourth year at the Gallery on Greene. he was one of the original artists when the gallery opened. This year's show features Welch's Key West miniatures in oil and watercolor, as well as five large works in oil. One of his mural paintings hangs in Moscow in the home of the U.S. Ambassador.
Welch has been commissioned by the DuPont, Marriot and Getty companies to paint originals for their resorts.
This year, he will be opening a gallery in Ponte Au Demer, a village in Normandy northwest of Paris. The area is the birthplace of impressionist painting.
Paul Arsenault's portion of the show will feature his Key West works. He was born in Canada and grew up in Massachusetts, where he developed his fascination with the sea. He was influenced early on by the maritime painter Frank Vining Smith, and later by the post-impressionists.
With Florida as his base since 1974, he has embarked on periodic painting trips to the Caribbean, Central and South America and the South Pacific.
