Sheila Responds

Responding last week to former Mayor Sheila Mullins' column criticizing the lack of hurricane shelters here, F. Blair Plowman suggested that she provide information about shelter locations, etc. Here is Mullins' reply.

The information requested regarding hurricane information with lists, maps of shelter locations and a lot more is available in the Bell South Telephone Directory starting on page twenty-seven. There is a wealth of information provided that is of value to everyone, longtime residents and new arrivals to the island alike.

To contact your elected officials regarding this or any other concern, call the City of Key West, the Mayor and Commissioners office 292-8102, or the Monroe County Commissioners at 294-4641. If you don't know who your commissioners are, call and give your address to find out who represents you and ask for their phone number.

We need to be realistic and work toward the goal of providing safe shelters for Keys residents during hurricanes.
