Petitions protesting the firing of Joe Pais at the Key West Art & Historical Society (KWAHS) continue to flow in We faxed the first batch to the PR man at the Society last Friday. It took about a half hour. If you haven't sent in your petition yet, see page 9 in today's issue. But the KWAHS board still refuses to take any action on reversing that senseless act. After 13 years, Pais was fired by Director Kevin O'Brien after he had already resigned to take a prestigeous job with the State Division of Historic Resources in Tallahassee. And he did it without board approval. Yet a spineless board continues to take a no-action/no-comment position— even while the image of the once-proud Society is going down the toilet.
Is it time to speak the unspeakable? Is it time to implement the boycott of Society events and fundraising that some have already suggested?
