Janet Reno Set To Speak Here Saturday

Gubernatorial candidate Janet Reno, originally scheduled to speak here last November 4, but cancelled because of the threat from Hurricane Michelle, will be here next Saturday night to address a Democratic fund-raising event at the Wyndham Casa Marina Resort. The event will start at 8pm. Other guests are expected to include Millie Herrera, president of the Hispanic Caucus of the Florida State Democratic Party, and Rev. Charles McKenzie, state director of Jesse Jackson's Rainnow PUSH Coalition. McKenzie is also a candidate for Congress, opposing Secretary of State Katherine Harris.

Tickets are $20 each and, if the event is not sold out, will be available at the door. Tickets sold for the November event will also be honored.

A VIP event to benefit Reno's campaign is also scheduled in the courtyeard at 1800 Atlantic from 6-7pm on January 5. Tickets are $250 each.

Info for either event: George Maurer, chair of the Lower Keys & Key West Democratic Club, 294-6725.
