Former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno who announced her candidacy for governor this
week will be in Key West on Sunday night, November 4, to address the Lower Keys/Key West Democratic
Club. The event will be at the Holiday Inn Beachside. She may or may not arrive in her now-famous red
pickup truck, said George Maurer, Democratic Club Chairman and State Democratic Committeeman.
Young Conchs who aspire to be Key West police officers may have to stand in line behind the sons and daughters of Key West Police Chief Buz Dillon's old cronies. Dillon recently "recruited" Tara Koenig, 22, the daughter of one of Dillon's captains when he was the police chief in Alpharetta, Georgia. Koenig, who graduated from the Police Academy here last December, is already giving advice to City officials concerning the regulation of t-shirt shops.
Did you read the big story in the Key West Citizen yesterday about the cop who worked undercover for seven months in t-shirt shops here an investigation that resulted in the arrest of eight last Tuesday? That undercover cop was young Koenig. Her name, and the details of the investigation, were released by the Police Department Wednesday.
In her report to City officials, she concluded, "This investigation has afforded the opportunity to clear out the corruption of Duval Street . . . If we pass up the opportunity, then the repercussions of a damaged integrity will be felt for (tourist) seasons to come."
Cool. Do you think she might be available to work on the affordable housing problem?
