In the wee hours of last Saturday morning, a motorcyclist evaded Key West Police officers after a high-speed chase on US Highway 1 that reportedly exceeded 130 mph. Details are sketchy since, police say, the incident is still under investigation.
Reportedly, Officer Josh Laino stopped the motorcyclist for allegedly weaving from lane to lane on North Roosevelt Boulevard. However, while Laino was running a "wants and warrants" check, the man reportedly jumped back on his motorcycle and took off, heading north at a high rate of speed.
Officer Kevin O'Connell reportedly pursued the motorcycle to Boca Chica at speeds exceeding 130 mph before losing sight of the suspect. A police spokesman estimated that the motorcycle may have been traveling at 140 mph.
A police spokesperson emphasized that the high-speed chase did not occur within the Key West city limits.
