Local venues are pulling out all the stops to present top live music for Biker Weekend. Tonight and tomorrow night, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16, rock `n roll recording artists, The Bars, will be on stage at Rumrunner's, 11 p.m. `til 4 a.m. This is the ninth year they've come down from New Hampshire for this gig.
On Saturday night, the hard-driving blues band, The Accelerators, hit the stage at the Green Parrot Bar, 10-2.
Also on Saturday night, Bluescaster, a red-hot band from Ft. Lauderdale will be at Schooner Wharf Bar, 7-midnight.
BODY ART AND HOT BODS in bikinis is the theme this Saturday, Sept. 16, at Schooner Wharf Bar. Beautiful ladies take the stage as Leigha Fox, who is running for Fantasy Fest Queen, presents the Minimal Bikini Show and Contest at 4 p.m. Contestants will show off their own minimal bikini creations as well as bikinis from Key West stores. Contestants can win a trip for two to the Bahamas and other great prizes. At 6 p.m., Goldies Southernmost Tattooing presents the Biker week Tattoo Show and Contest. If you plan to enter the contest show up at 3 p.m. when the registration starts. The Body art is judged in nine categories: best color, smallest tattoo, best black, best black & gray, tribal, most unusual, best woman, best man and best in show. The winner in best show will take home $100 in cash, a Schooner Wharf T-shirt and a bartab. Winners in all categories will take home prizes such as bartabs and T-shirts and sunset cruises aboard the Schooner Western Union. Live entertainment by David Reuter and the Bluecasters from 7 p.m. Bikers will have their own reserved parking in front of Schooner Wharf.
For one night only, this Monday, September 18, Peter Yarrow, of the folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary, performs at the San Carlos Institute here in Key West. The concert is presented by Seacamp, the marine science education organization on Big Pine Key, as part of its 35th Reunion celebration. Peter Yarrow is widely known for songs he composed for Peter, Paul & Mary: Day is Done, Light One Candle, the Great Mandala and especially Puff the Magic Dragon.
Curtain time is 8 p.m. Concert tickets are $20 and are available at Fast Buck Freddies (294-2007) in Key West and Edie's Hallmark (872-3933) on Big Pine Key. Mr. Yarrow is being hosted by Grand Key Resort.
