Big Music Week At the Schooner Wharf Bar

The beautiful Evalena has scheduled a rockin' week of music at the Schooner Wharf Bar. Tonight and tomorrow night, Friday and Saturday, May 19-20, Bluescaster (above, left), the red hot blues band form Miami will be in the house 7 `til midnight. This Wednesday, May 24, California-based blue guitar goddess Kris Wiley will be on the Schooner Wharf stage, 7-11. The Lost Angeles Times said: "Wiley is the most promising female blues guitarist to emerge since Bonnie Raitt."

BUILD IT AND IT WILL FLOAT. MAYBE. The Ninth Annual Minimal Regatta is set for next weekend, Sunday, May 28, at the Schooner Wharf Bar. This is the zaniest regatta you'll ever see— because the construction of the participating vessels is limited to one sheet of plywood, two 2x4s, duct tape and a handful of fasteners. Two Big Events Will Benefit Medi-Van

Next Weekend

Two big events next weekend will benefit the Rural Health Network's Lifelines Medi-Van.

On Friday, May 26, Tito Puente Jr., the "Prince of Latin Dance," will be performing at Diva's. On Sunday, May 28, Latin sensation Chris DeBoss will perform in concert as part of the Conch Republic Rum Company Sunset Festival and Pig Roast at the Southernmost hOuse.

De Boss will sing his hit "De La Rumba a La Tumba." The Coffee Mill African Drummers and Dancers will also be performing. The $35 admission includes entertainment, pig roast, beer, wine and soda, plus an art and good stuff auction, including an original Salinero.

Tito Puente Jr. is a Billboard Dance Top Ten chart buster and winner of the "Best Salsa Video of the Year." He is best known for his rendition of "Oye Como Va." Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

The LIfelines Medi-van was created by the rural Health Network, in direct response to the scarcity of primary health care for the uninsured and underinsured of Monroe County. It is a customized medically equipped recreational vehicle that travels the Keys on a weekly schedule and serves an average of 35-45 persons a day. KW Film Society To Present "Sordid Lives"

The Key West Film Society presentation this weekend is the Del Shores film "Sordid Lives." This is a comedic coming-out film about a neurotic Texas family that puts the fun in dysfunctional.
