A Key West man is in jail after allegedly attacking and kicking a pregnant woman in broad daylight.
It happened at about 9:20 a.m. yesterday at the North Roosevelt Burger King. The Key West woman, who is reportedly noticeably four months pregnant, tucked four dollar bills in her shorts waistband, leaving the rest of her money in her pickup truck. As she walked toward the restaurant, a man allegedly came up from behind her, said something, and grabbed her neck, starting to spin her around. When he grabbed her shirt, he tore it, causing her to fall down. The man reportedly kicked her in the abdomen and fled. The 20-year-old woman's money was gone.
A description of the attacker was already on the police radio as Key Wet Police Officer Robert Currul was on his way to the scene. The woman was being put in an ambulance when Currul arrived. In the ambulance she described her attacker in more detail.
Less than an hour later, Detective Sgt. John Beuth and Detective Frank Duponty spotted a man matching the description behind the Sears automotive shop. Beuth took the man, 30-year-old Brendan McKinney, to the hospital where the woman reportedly positively identified him as her attacker. Then Beuth took him to a store clerk who also reportedly identified McKinney as the man who attacked the woman. Beuth charged McKinney with strong arm robbery and Currul took him to the county jail.
