If you're a real fan of reggae, here's what you need to know about the Bob Marley Reggae Festival tomorrow evening, Saturday, March 4, at East Martello Tower: Seven original members of the Wailers will be on stage, including bassist Familyman Barrett, Al Anderson on guitar, Earl "Wya" Lindo on organ, and Marcia Griffiths, one of the original I-Threes.
Concert promoters also promise an incredible horn section.
This reunion concert will feature many of the Wailers' greatest hits including "Get Up, Stand Up," "Jamming," "Lively Up Yourself," "I Shot The Sheriff," "One Love," "Exodus", "Buffalo Soldier", "War," "Could You Be Loved" and more.
Marcia Griffiths has never performed in Key West so local concert-goers are in for a treat. She is well-known for her hit, "Electric Boogie" which spawned the "Electric Slide" dance craze.
Griffiths was one of Bob Marley's backup singers for almost a decade. And she has performed with Eric Clapton and Elton John.
Another top act on the stage tomorrow night is Bigga & Company, also originally from Jamaica. This group is well known for hits like "Fly Like An Eagle," "Bounce Back" and "What About Love."
The opening act, top local band Inner Revolution, takes the stage at 6:45. They lay it down in a "rock-ska-funk `n reggae" style. Just a couple of weeks ago, Springsteen's sax man, Clarence Clemons, jammed with the band.
East Martello Tower is located at 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd., next to the airport. Tickets $15 in advance and $20 on Saturday. Tickets available at Stick & Stein, Neptune Designs, Best Music, the Key West Welcome Center, all five Sebago Catamaran booths and at the door. Gates open at 6.
