Wrecker's Race Sunday

It's time once again for the Wrecker's Race Series, when local captains, crews and passengers race the seven miles to Sand Key on an annual quest for bragging rights on this small island. The flag will drop on the second race of this "all in fun" series this Sunday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. Participants will reenact the times in Key West history when wreckers would race to a disabled ship, rescue the crew and then lay claim to the cargo.

The five classes for the race series are: Classic, Schooner, Multi-hull, Monohull over 30 and Monohull under 30 feet.

The Captains Meeting is tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. on the upper deck of Schooner Wharf Bar. Complimentary Captain Morgan Rum punch and Schooner Wharf Gallery hors d'oeuvres will be served. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, race day, at 7 p.m. The race is video taped so competing racers can watch their vessels under sail, while enjoying their free Schooner BBQ dinner. Then party down with live music by Othello Molineau.
