Last week, we reported the shocking story of an inter-agency team of law enforcement officers, while looking for drugs in a house on Sixth Street on Dec. 8, shooting the family dog 13 times. Reportedly, more than 50 bullet holes were found in the blood-spattered bedroom where the pet was killed.
We had hoped to bring you a followup this week. But that has been difficult. The owner of the house doesn't want to talk, fearful that the cops will come back. When we asked for a comment on the dog-shooting incident from the Key West Police Dept., we were told that they couldn't comment because a lawsuit had been filed. But City Attorney Bob Tischenkel said he doesn't know anything about any lawsuit.
A Key West cop questioned the validity of the report that 50 bullet holes had been found in the bedroom wall.
"Did you go out and look at that room?" he asked. "Those drug dealers lie, you know."
No, we didn't go out to look at the room. But we do know that there were 13 bullet holes in the dead dog. Our source: The director of the County Animal Shelter. That's where the dog was taken after the shooting.
And as far as drug dealers lying: According to our sources, no drug dealers were arrested in that house.
Stay tuned.
