What kind of music do you like? Key West has it, and you won't find better! Does classic rock turn your wheels? Look no farther than the Jack Nasty Band. All the players are veterans of famous rock bands. They know how to do it right and take no prisoners, and don't miss Black and Skabuddah. Both play guitar and sing. Russ is a master fret man, and Laura has the smokiest voice. Think Cher without the big vibrato. Cabaret anyone? Bobby Nesbitt is the very best, anywhere. Alternative? Don't miss the Nathan Whitt Band. They are riders to the stars, and Zack Seemiller isn't far behind. Either could 'happen' anytime, but Nathan has established a national following already and had label offers.
Pete and Wayne are excellent musicians, but their stichk is raunchy comedy. They're hilarious, but don't take the kids. Speaking of kids, go hear our ten year old bluesman, Little Boy and the Unpaid Bar Tabs. They'll definitely shake up your mind. For reggae you want Paris and the Reggae Party with steel drummer Othello Molineaux. For calypso find One World. Blues is a happening sound in Cayo Hueso with Double Buchi's smoking guitarists Chris Case and Carl Waggoner, who don't know fingers aren't supposed to work that fast, and Overnight Sensation, who mix their blues with rock.
Speaking of guitar players, Bobby Donaldson is as good as you'll find on Earth! But can you find country music here? Another about to happen star is C.W. Colt, one of the best song writers you'll ever find and a great singer, who also is a studio quality musician. Terry Cassidy plays hot banjo. You'll love him. He does an early shift, so don't sleep all day!
If you love great jazz, the best on the planet is here. Dave Burns and Lonnie Jacobson are the kings, and Lonnie's Monday night jam at the Casa Marina will have most of our great players sitting in. The famed Teddy Charles with Tim McAlpine and Skipper Kripitz play Friday early at Blue Heaven, and Virgilio's presents Burns, Jacobson, Franco Piaciabello and Roger Van Zant on Saturdays. If you like romantic singles, look no farther. Din Allen, Robert Hutto, and Dan Mobley will thrill you. Barry Cuda, alone or with others is a 'don't miss'. Cuda plays boogie woogie and barrelhouse piano like no one else. You'll see him pushing his rubber tired upright from gig to gig. He's also hilarious with some originals you don't want to hear with mama, although she'll dig them too.
Carmen Rodriguez is adorable and perky. She and partner Michael Thomas do a lot of forties music. Michael is an outrageously good performer by himself. Are you into the Phil Spector group sound with choreography to match? The Fabulous Spectrelles will bring that era right back. They truly are fabulous, and believe me, they do a real show.
Are Drag Queens you cuppa? Christopher Peterson's Eyecons show is killer at The 801, this weekend. The delightful Lenore Troia sings the kind of island flavored originals you'll want to take home. She's at La Te Da, as is piano man Larry Smith. Larry and guests are also at the Copa. Salsa, you say? Think Caribe! If you can't find the best in music here, get a grip. You just can't be pleased. Stay cool.
