Burglar Has Guilt Attack
Turns Himself In, Along With His Accomplice: $1000 TAKEN FROM SCOOTER RENTAL SHOP
Key West Police solved a burglary case last night when the burglar apparently got a guilty conscience and turned himself and his accomplice in to police.
Robert Pryor, 53, was
charged with burglary of a
structure and felony larceny
of over $300 for the burglary,
which occurred early Tuesday
morning.
Officers were first dispatched to 505 Greene Street, Randall J’s Scooters, on an alarm call. Upon arrival, officers found that the front door of the store had been forcibly opened and damaged.
After clearing the building with the K-9, officers searched the store with the owner, who said about $1,000 had been taken from the back register. A surveillance video tape of the scene showed a thin man enter the store, access the drawer, remove the cash and then leave.
About 14 hours later, the owner of the store called police saying Pryor, one of his employees, had confessed to the crime. Officers arrested Pryor, who then admitted that Jeffrey Kaplan had been his accomplice in both planning and executing the burglary. Kaplan gave Pryor clothes to wear during the burglary so that he wouldn’t be recognized, and then stood watch while Pryor broke in to the business.
Officers found Kaplan at the Lower Keys Medical Center on an unrelated battery and arrested him for accessory after the fact.
