Pribramsky: State Attorney Says He Will Not Prosecute
KOHL: THERE IS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SHOW INTEND TO DEFRAUD
by Dennis Reeves Cooper
Although the final investigative report will not be released for a few more days, State Attorney Mark Kohl told Key West The Newspaper this week that School Board member Steven Pribramsky will not be prosecuted for allegedly signing another man’s name on four checks totaling more than $90,000.
The checks were written on an American Express account in the name of Gerald Abreu and Reed Appliance Enterprise. Pribramsky and his wife purchased Reed appliances from Abreu and George Santana in January 2006. Abreu said that Pribramsky promised to transfer the American Express line of credit and two other company credit cards into his name.
But he apparently never did that, Abreu said.
“Because that account was in my name and I was the only person who could legally sign the checks, someone had to forge my name in order to get the money,” Abreu said.
Kohl said this week that he is not filing charges against Pribramsky because he could probably not prove that there was an intent to defraud.
“I understand that Mr. Pribramsky has repaid the money,” Kohl said.
Abreu and Santana have sued the Pribramskys, claiming that they have defaulted on a $300,000 note. The Pribramskys have counter-sued.
