City Code Enforcement Director Fired

Details were sketchy at presstime, but a well-connected source at City Hall told Key West The Newspaper Thursday that Catherine Harding— who heads the City's code enforcement, licensing and permiting departments— has been fired. "At first, City Manager Julio Avael asked her to resign," the source said, "but she refused. So Julio fired her. I understand she may fight it."

Avael reportedly said he fired Harding because he was getting "too many complaints." Harding reportedly said that the complaints came from contractors and others who went to Avael after she refused to give them special favors or break the rules for them.

Stay tuned.
