Put on your stiletto heels, slip into that slinky dress and light up a cigar it's time to tango!
The Founders Society will host an evening of tango with their presentation of Tango Mujer an all female tango company. The performance will be at The Tennessee Williams Fine Arts Center on the FKCC campus at 8 p.m., this Wednesday, Jan. 24.
A special part of the evening will be the tango party hosted by the Grand Key Resort after the performance, where the women from TangoMujer will give tango lessons and demonstrations under the stars on the deck of the Grand Key.
TangoMujer is a group of five women, with their members hailing from Argentina, Switzerland, Germany and the U.S. They are full-time tango professionals with schools in New York and Berlin.
Individually they have performed the tango hundreds of times with some of the best male tangueros in the world as their partners. They are now joining forces for the first time for this North American tour.
The all-female make-up of TangoMujer was the result of necessity rather than design. Two of the dancers were childhood friends in Berlin, and when they began to study, they could not find any men who were interested in tango. As a result, they took turns leading and following, which is one of the most important parts of tango not gender. The two friends joined the other three members, and together they have created a fascinating new approach to an old dance.
TangoMujer has danced for sold-out performances around the world.
Tickets are now on sale at the TWFAC box office, 296-1520. For the ticket price of $46, you will
be able to attend the performance and the Dance Party. Other tickets are $33 and $28 and includes the
performance only.
