Cops Cracking Down On Owners Of Abandoned Vehicles

The City of Key West is getting tough on those who abandon automobiles, trucks, boats and trailers on municipal right-of-way or on City property. Approximately 300 vehicles have already been targeted and will be removed, including 39 vehicles behind Ocean Walk Apartments on South Roosevelt Boulevard. Police officials say that when owners of these abandoned vehicles can be identified, they will be prosecuted for felony dumping. Residents can report abandoned vehicles by calling 292-8117, giving the location, general description and tag number, if possible.

City Electric Paying Interest On Deposits This Month

Throughout the month of August, City Electric System customers who have deposits with the utility will see a line item credit on their bills for interest earned on their deposit. The Utility Board approved an interest rate of 5.57 percent during its meeting July 26. This is up from 4.59 percent in 1999.

On September 22, 1999, the Utility Board approved the Customer Service policy Manual, which states that service deposits will earn simple interest and that interest will be credited to all accounts on an annual basis. Prior to the end of the fiscal year, the Utility Board will determine the rate of interest.
