Battle Of the Bars Set For Sunday Afternoon

CITY COMMISSIONER CARMEN TURNER WILL BE A JUDGE—AND RUMOR HAS IT THAT SHE WILL TAKE A BRIBE

The time for talk is over. It's time to walk the walk. This Sunday, July 30, the 7th annual Battle of the Bars at the Schooner Wharf Bar will determine which bar staff will have bragging rights for the next year.

The games get underway at 1 p.m. with the lighting of the torch and a parade led by last year's winner, Mike's Teabaggers.

The "battle" runs all afternoon. This is a great spectator event.

Each of the 35 teams will be made up of seven members: Two waitrons, two bartenders, one security, one bar back, and a customer.

The competition is a relay race that involves bar skill, precision, and endurance in the form of mixing a Margarita, running through an obstacle course with the drink, recycling, tapping a keg of ale, pouring, serving and drinking Key West Lager in a team relay effort.

Team captains are allowed to bribe the judges. Bribes and entry fees benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

The Real Roy Boy will MC the event. And the Prime Movers will be there to provide live music all afternoon.

Let the games begin!
