A blast of pepper spray ended a street fight apparently stemming from a case of road rage in Key Wet early Wednesday morning. Two scooters pulled up to each side of a Jeep stopped at Duval Street and Truman Avenue just after midnight. Witnesses said the scooters had been driven erratically, trying to pass the Jeep. The scooter drivers reportedly shouted through the open windows at the driver and passenger in the Jeep, calling them a gay-related slur and complaining they were driving too slowly.
Then, witnesses said, each scooter driver started punching the Jeep's driver and passenger through the open car windows. That's when the driver and passenger got out of the Jeep, witnesses said, and everyone started fighting. The driver grabbed pepper spray from the glove box and sprayed both scooter drivers. Then the Jeep's occupants got back into the car and drove away to stop any further violence. They returned when Key West police arrived.
Police arrested the scooter drivers, 28-year-old Jim Heinegar and 29-year-old Steve Venditto,
for battery.
Yo, Miss Anna! Your boy Jimmy says he didn't have no upbringin'. In last Thursday's Citizen, June 22, an article about high school seniors being taught etiquette at a special dinner at Mangoes quoted Mayor Jimmy Weekley as saying, "When I graduated from high school and went to college, there were times I was embarrassed about etiquette points I didn't know."
We bet that Miss Anna probably had something to say to Jimmy after that report was published.
