KWHS Teacher Busted For Allegedly Stealing School Computers

by Cynthia Edwards, Key West Police Dept.

Key West police arrested a Key West High School teacher Wednesday for allegedly stealing two computers from the school early in February. William Parker, 28, an auto mechanics instructor, was caught on videotape yesterday morning reportedly loading two stolen computers into his van. He reportedly took them, worth about $1000 each, from the school in early February and gave them to a technician who allegedly altered them electronically so they could not be traced. Wednesday morning he met with the man at his Key West home to retrieve the computers.

But Key West police were tipped off and set up video surveillance at the home. Right after taping Parker loading the stolen computers into his van, they arrested him for grand theft and possession of stolen property.

Cops: No Problems With Spring Breakers

The Spring Breakers are here, but Key West police say that, so far, they are pretty well behaved. There haven't been any serious problems with spring breakers in Key West in many years. Key West police officers say the town is definitely full, but the students are behaving themselves. A large police presence on the beaches and in the downtown bar area is intended to deter most illegal activities during spring break.

Duty schedules for Key West police officers have been adjusted to allow for extra officers directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, walking the beat and patrolling on bicycles and motorcycles, especially at night. Police officers on foot and bicycles also will patrol the beach during the day, while police boats will be stationed in near-shore waters to handle any problems there. Fire inspectors will be watching for overcrowded restaurants and bars.

The Key West police department's spring break plans call for providing a safe, peaceful and lawful gathering while addressing the concerns of citizens and their rights in a professional and courteous manner.
