CES Worker Injured; Causes Outage

A contractor working on City Electric System's tieline on Big Pine Key was injured Thursday morning when the bucket he was in crossed phases causing a flash-over.

The man received second-degree burns on his hands, arms and face. He wsa transported to Fisherman's Hosptial in Marathon and then to Jackson Memorial's Burn Unit in Miami.

The incident caused a 19-minute power outage for most City Electric System customers.

Kids' Christmas Fest

This Saturday Keys kids will have a chance to get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus and tell them their last-minute holiday wishes.

The Key West Fire Department Toys for Tots volunteers, with Winn-Dixie, and Coca Cola, are sponsoring the annual Childrens' Christmas Fest. Free finger printing will be available in addition to the free picture. The Clauses and their police officer friends will be at the Key West Winn-Dixie from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18.

Families of kids expecting to receive gifts from Toys for Tots are reminded to stay close to home Sunday, Dec. 19, after 10 a.m. That's when Santa and Mrs. Claus will be delivering sacks of presents to the kids' families' houses. The fire truck carrying them will make it easy to know when they're in the neighborhood.

Free Parking, Free Bus Rides For Christmas

Merry Christmas from the City of Key West. Between 8 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, to Midnight Saturday, Dec. 25, you don't have to pay to park in metered sopaces in Key West. Free bus rides too— on Wednesday through Saturday, Dec. 22-25.

Susie Mitchell Memorial Fund Set

A memorial fund has been set up at Reef Relief at the request of Wayne Mitchell and Cheryl Washer, family representatives for the late Susie Mitchell who recently perished in a tragic bicycle accident in Key WEst. The family wishes that memorial donations be made to Reef Relief in memory of Mitchell, who was an active volunteer for the organization.

"Susie was an active volunteer in the Grassroots Workshop that meets each month to address water quality issues at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Key West," noted Reef Relief Project Coordinator Michael Blades. "She was also a good friend whose loss has touched the entire Key West community."
