Tag Check On RV Parked At Higgs Beach Reveals That Vehicle Owned By Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett slumming in Key West?

You already read here that the homeless have been cited as a problem at Higgs Beach, and now, in season, RV travelers are also lining up to enjoy the low rent and the ocean view. But did you know that one of those RVs belonged to Jimmy Buffett?

According to Jim Hendrick, County Attorney and sometime beach vigilante, one of the recreational vehicles parked there last month was run through the computer by a law enforcement officer, Jerome Fain, and it came up registered to the man who made "Margaritaville" famous.

"I don't know if Jimmy Buffett was in the RV," said Hendrick Wednesday. "Do you suppose he has come down in the world lately?"

Not likely. Last we heard, Buffett was still running a music, book and restaurant empire, and he is frequently mentioned in the same breath as his distant uncle, gazillionaire Warren Buffett.

Hendrick said his group, the Friends of Higgs Beach, has formed volunteer committees to work with County staff and reclaim the park from the undesirables who live there.
