`Keys' Puppies At Keys Pet Market

These beautiful, healthy puppies are temporarily residing at Keys Pet Market in Overseas Marketplace until they find permanent homes. They're called `Keys Puppies' because they're part Chow breed, probably Lab or Rottweiler mixed in, and black in color. That's a Keys Dog breed.

The folks from Lower Keys Friends of Animals (LKFOA) found the homeless puppies and brought them to Keys Pet Market in the hopes that they would be adopted right away.

Their mother belongs to a homeless man, who was trying to give the puppies away on the street during the Goombay Festival. He was offered free spaying services through LKFOA, so his dog wouldn't have any more unwanted puppies, but apparently he hasn't taken advantage of the offer as yet. We hope he does.

Please spay and neuter your pets. If you need financial assistance to do so, call LKFOA at 294-9445.

A Kritter Kristmas Party

Ce Ce Crane of the Key West Kritter Patrol is at it again, even after major back surgery, planning a stupendous Christmas party for all the animals in the community, and animal lovers too!

It's called a "Key West Kritter Kristmas at the Curry Mansion" and will be held at one of Key West's most beautiful homes at 511 Caroline St., on Sun., Dec. 12, from 3-5 p.m.

Special guests have been invited, and Edith Amsterdam will concoct her famous and delicious eggnog!

The only entrance fee requested is for humans to bring cat and dog toys for the animals at the Shelter.

There will be an auction, great food, Christmas carols, and lots of camaraderie. Sound like a great time? Put a star on your calendar and stay tuned. "All party proceeds will benefit animals in need," said Crane.

Welcome home, CeCe!

Patsy Cline: Lots Of Heart, But Can't Sing!

Roy Stone and other volunteers from the Key West Kritter Patrol named her Patsy Cline because, as Roy said, "she's a mountain dog!" Patsy is also "very mellow, and loves to ride in cars-- she's great company on road trips!"

Patsy, eight years old, has been at the shelter for months. Although she has beautiful eyes-- "it looks like she wears mascara," said Roy-- Patsy's not the prettiest dog you've ever seen and she can't sing, but she sure is full of heart. And she really needs a home.

There are presently 40 dogs who are waiting at the Shelter for a permanent home, including `Cinderella,' a puppy who came to the Shelter recently.

She was abandoned and was brought to the shelter covered with ticks. She was cleaned up and well fed, and is now ready to be adopted to a good home. And there's also a young male Chihuahua mix, who's tall and a solid tan color, who's available for adoptiontoo.

About 100 cats and kittens of every color, size and temperament are also waiting for good homes, including two declawed tabby cats.

Adult cats and dogs are only $10 and $20 for adoption, thanks to spay/neuter and shots paid for through the KW Kritter Patrol.

Want to adopt a new best friend? Want to help out at the Shelter? Come on out to the Shelter today, or call at 294-4857. Or call the Key West Kritter Patrol at 293-6983. A friend is waiting.

Shelter Hours: Mon-Fri, 9-6; Saturdays, 9-2; and on the first Sunday of each month, the Shelter is open for adoptions only, from noon-3 p.m.
